Rock rail / step bar

Frame mounted are almost as strong as welded and definitely better than body mounted. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone with frame mounted that had body damage caused by the sliders bending in.
LOD are both frame mounted and provide a flat stepping area. They take the most abuse you can give them, look great and serve a purpose above and beyond protection since they double as a step. Plus, they have been on Jk's longer than most sliders with very few complaints.

I've seen those and the Smittybilt ones do some body damage. The steel seems to be more flexible than others like the LOD's. So I would say that it doesn't matter if you have body mounted, frame mounted or welded, if the material used is lower qaulity, then nothing will prevent body damage.
Outside of maybe a tad more strength at mounting points on the frame, welded rails really can't offer much more protection over bolt on if the steel is crap. I know a lot of people love Evo stuff but I don;t own any so can't talk first hand but they seem solid. If someone was to weld on Smittybilt sliders, I can guarantee you that the same bad result will happen if you drop it hard enough on a rock.
Evo, LOD, Shrockworks, PSC all seem to be the top from a qaulity perspective. I've heard rumors that PSC is coming out with frame mounted so that should be interesting. I know a lot of people love Ace sliders because they can mount with the Rubi sliders but that is when I've seen damage due to closing the gap between the body and slider. Bad idea!
Lot's of choices out there.
