My 16x8 wheels have only 4" of backspace. Really, if you think about it, if they're not hitting your tires at rest, they're unlikely to hit at all. The bottom bolt is stationary, in relationship to the wheel/tire, and the top will move a very small amount as the sway bar moves because the sway bar end and the axle aren't on the same pivot point and radius.
