Road noise from aggressive tires
#2
I'm still rolling on the stock Goodyears right now, but I'll speculate this:
Since the JK's are a lot quieter overall, you might notice the roar of the tires more (less squeaks, rattles, etc. to mask the noise). But the overall noise might be less. JK tire noise+"other noise" < TJ tire noise + "other noise" .
Hard to explain, but hopefully you know what I mean.
On the other hand, there seems to be more insulation underneath the JK, so you may hear less roar. Your guess is as good as mine I guess!

A twist on the same theme... I'm planning to eventually upgrade to ProComp Xterrain 35x12.50/17 tires. Has anyone any experience with these tires. Are they as loud as, say, Super Swamper Thornbirds or BF Goodrich Mud T/As?

I agree I had them and swithed to BFG mud terrains, they were both pretty quiet for off road tires, but the BFG's worked better off road!I am going to try the mickey thompson 35x13.50x18 in MTZ's.

Any experience with Toyo Open Country MT's? I really like the look of them, was thinking about 35x13.5x15's. This site is the most comprehensive "user review" site that I was able to find:
http://www.1010tires.com/tirereviews.asp?brand=Toyo
... and the Open Countries got excellent ratings. Seems like the lugs are siped, etc. so you get a tire that's decent in the wet/snow and fairly quiet while retaining the looks/performance of a MT. Any thoughts?
