Ok, so I am getting ready for my next jk build and had an idea. But can not find any info on the net.

Back ground
Trailer queen that will not be used on road.

Tires 37s. Lift 2.5

It will be used for comp. winch challenges. Basically we run bush trails against the clock. So gearing is vital. Here is my current trail rig.

High range will never be used.

I'm planing to run an atlas 4 speed. Which will give me great gearing for the trails and then the 5.4ratio for technical driving.

Now based of the gearing 3.73 is a little low but will be ok.

The week link in a Dana 30 is the ring and pinion

My question for the engineers or experienced. if I maintain the 3.73 gear set. It should b strong but how strong ?

would a dana 30, 3.73 ratio ring and pinion gear set be stronger or near a 30 spline rcv?

I am aware I will need to strengthen other components.

Thanks for taking your time to respond.

3.73 is the highest ratio I can go with the arb locker.

I realize the Dana question is beating to megadeath but this is question is unique due to larger tires and high ratio r&p requirement.

Don't mean to pry into your financials but if you have the money to buy a jk for a trailered trail rig and put an atlas transfer case in would you have the money for like a pro rock 44? Or is it an if it isn't broke don't fix it situation?

A rig that needs to be trailered to places. Due to legal issues on the road, breaking down 800 miles from home in your only vehicle, or better gas milage in a diesel pulling than a Jeep on 40" tires.

Thanks for all the comments

Sorry,
Supposed to be queen.

Trailer as, to many rules to follow to keep it on the road. For example can not go over 50mm lift and 5% increase in tire size without certification.

Gearing is my main objective. Rcv 30 spline will be fine with the 37s maximum I can use. Gusseting etc is easy so my only issue is with the r&p I under stand that if I was going for a lower ratio it would be out of the question.

But with the 3.73 I am thinking it will be fine. But I am only a hm winch mechanic. So need some advise on that.

Here is video of how we 4wd over here in nz.
