Of course I didn't bother buying new bolts and the shop installed them with the supplied bolts with no problem. In fact they said they hadn't used Riddler covers before and thought they were really cool, so I'm guessing they didn't have a problem with the install.

Did you tighten your bolts in the proper sequence? I'm thinking it was most likely a defective bolt.
Yep, tightened in the proper sequence according the the lubelocker diagram. There is nothing on lubelocker or rockmen about needing different hardware.

Default What about the fill plugs on your new Riddlers?

I also read somewhere that it was good to replace the stock bolts with 1" long grade 8 bolts, but I can't find where I read it. I think it was an install writeup somewhere.

I have a pair of painted Riddlers and a set of Lubelockers in my shop waiting to go on my Jeep. It seemed to me that the fill plug didn't tighten until it was really deep into the diff covers. Did you use any sealing aid (like teflon tape) on the fill plugs or did you just put them in and tighten them? I'm worried about having teflon tape in the joint, but read of somebody else doing that.

Well I didn't use the stock bolts. The Riddlers come with longer bolts because they are thicker covers. I did not use anything on the fill plug, saw no need to do so since the stocker didn't have any on the fill or drain plug.

So i finally got around to installing my dana 30 front and dana 44 rear Riddler covers today and i had a bolt brake on me too!!! I installed the dana 30 front first, figuring if something went wrong i could still drive around town in 2wd. Hand installed the bolts and then torqed them to 15lbs in the proper sequence per the lube locker packaging. On the first bolt on the second round of tightening to 35lbs i heard a snap on the first turn Luckily the bolt snaped, however it was still somewhat held together making it possible for the bolt to be taken out in one piece. The bolt was not cross threaded at all so im guessing it was a bad bolt. I ran down to the local hardware store and bought enough grade 8 bolts for the front and back diffs. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on this since it seems maybe Riddler has a bad batch of bolts circulating out there.

That is very good to know. I just ordered a set today. I think I will just go get new bolts as of now. Do you remember what size they are? If not I will just match them up when they come in

i think they were 5/16 by 18 if i remember right. As for how long...the local hardware store had only 3/4 inch and 1 inch in length...nothing inbetween. The 3/4 was about 1/8 too short and the 1 inch was 1/8 too long. I went with the 3/4 because i didnt know how much room i had to play with and didnt want to bottom out the bolt and not have enough room to torque it down.

I'm running the same setup on my Rubicon. I stripped one of the bolts using the stock ones during the installation. If I did it over I would just use the RTV Riddler sent with the covers and been done with it.

I tell ya man, i've had more bolts brake on me when installing stuff lately. I've had a few bolts here and there on my LOD front and rear bumpers brake, so i'm slowly replacing all of the bolts on both bumpers with grade 8. Its a pain in the ass...but at least the black and gold-ish tinted bolts look good.

I have a Riddler 44 cover and lubelocker up front. No leaks and no hardware issues.
