Is anyone running this combination? If so, any problems with the bolts?

Installing my D30 cover and following the torque specs from Lubelocker I tightened to 15 lbs first time around.

On the first bolt tightening to 35 lbs the bolt snapped off in the housing.

 

I have the combo on my front D30, but had the shop that installed my gears put it on when they had to go back and change out a axle seal. I haven't had any problems with leaking yet. Maybe the it was cross-threaded? Or maybe the bolt had bad threads to begin with?

I'm not sure what happend there. I don't think it was cross threaded. I got the bolt out and put the cover back on with the lubelocker but went light on the torque. On both the front and the rear, just to be safe. I'll keep an eye on it and see if I get any leaks.

 

Hmm, interesting. Hadn't heard that before. It almost seemed to me that they are too long. Well, the bolt was a good part of the way in, cranked down to 15 ft. lbs. It was snug.

Both front and rear are on now, after a good long drive no leaks at all so I'm going to leave it as is for now.

 

35Lbs You would think that even a plastic bolt could take that.

 

I havent heard of bolts breaking either...but good to know since i'll be putting on my front and rear riddlers this week. Not to hijack your thread, but how much fluid did you put in your dana 30 and dana 44?

No problem on the hijack! Just be careful when tourqing them on.

I put 1 quart in the 30 and a 2 quarts + a little bit in the 44. Pretty much dead on to what the owners manual recommends, give or take a bit.

 

That sucks the bolt broke on you, but at least you got it fixed now.

Did you get the RH skid back on? Mine is still leaning against the wall in my garage

 

Yea I was sweatin' it when that bolt head fell out.

Ha ha, mine is still sitting the basement leaning agains the wall too. It'll be on for RC for sure! That thing is a bear to put on so I'm lacking motivation because I've gone through it once already.

 

I think the information about needing slightly longer bolts is either on the lube lockers site or the riddler page, because I read that too.

Of course I didn't bother buying new bolts and the shop installed them with the supplied bolts with no problem. In fact they said they hadn't used Riddler covers before and thought they were really cool, so I'm guessing they didn't have a problem with the install.

Did you tighten your bolts in the proper sequence? I'm thinking it was most likely a defective bolt.
