I had the cross terrains on a 2002 Grand Cherokee....
I dont like them. Unless your STRICTLY highway.
I replaced them with BFG Rugged Trails. That would be an excellent tire for you. GREAT highway manners, and ok on the trail. Brutal in deep mud.
I run the Muds now, there great. But there highway manners arent nearly as good as an AT. And they get louder as they wear.

I know this goes against most opinions, including my own.
Since $ is a concern and you don't wheel a lot, stick with the stock tires. We have a guy with a stock 2 door x that wheels with us in our local club. He goes everywhere anybody else goes less any clearance issues.
Once you have the flow to add a lift, then you can upgrade the size and quality at the same time.
This is advice from someone who has wasted plenty of $ on tires.
from 07 stock X 16" rims/tires to 265/70/16 BFG AT
then to 17" X rims with 285/70/17 BFG MT
then to 315/70/17 BFG AT
Now, I have the stock Rubi tires. They run great on the street and wheel awesome. I'm tempted to get some 285/70/17 BFG KM2, but I would just end up disappointed. I really want 35" tires.
Good Luck!

Hmmm.... I thought BFG was going to quit making the Mud Terrain Km, replacing it with the KM2. Maybe I was misinformed? Do you think that BFG has set a deal with Jeep to sell this specific tire directly to them, because my Jeep Dealor is the only local tire dealor who can get this tire and they want a LOT more than tirerack.com, haha...

I put a set on my 98 F150 about 25,000 miles ago. They are quiet, wear great and work well off road.
I have the BFG MTs on my 08 Wrangler. They are quieter than I thought they would be and work great off road.

How much tread is left at 25,000 miles, are they wearing well? Have you8 had any problems keeping the firestones balanced?

It might be that they are trying to close out what stock they have left for the BFG KM.
2-3 week shipping at best. The price was right for a temporary fix when I damaged 3 out of 5 tires. My next tire size will be a 35 in. I'm still in research mode.
One of the reason for the thread was to get some input from the others that have gone thought several different tire companies, in hopes that we can learn from crappy tires on the current markets.
