Default removing stock bumpers, question

I have an 08 x and want to take the plastic bumpers off for aesthetics and to make room for larger tires. Are the steel bumpers underneath okay like they are, or would I have to get aftermarket replacements?
Also, if anyone has done this, am I gonna have a hard time with removal because of the fog lights in the stock bumper?
any help would be appreciated

Its fairly modular...you should not have a hard time. I did take off the entire bumper, and could see that the plastic parts are ust a skin over the metal.

I imagine it cold be done ON the truck, but, When I removed the bumper entirely (not a long process, 8 bolts, plus some plastic clips for the fog light harness, plastic aesthetic parts...maybe 30 minutes total at most...)...it was VERY easy to then see/access the parts you are interested in...and, of course, it would then be MUCH easier to access/remove the remaining items, and then just bolt the bumper back on sans unwanted stuff...and be done with it.

With the entire bumper off, it ALSO gives a clear view of much of the stuff the bumper is in the way of normally...so for future convenience (Esp. if you snap off a few pics...), you already know what's under there, etc.

From a purely functional standpoint, the oem bumper under there is a std 5 mph bumper....nothing special.

If I were to have my 'drothers...I'd 'drother mount a Shroworks Stubby there to have even MORE tire clearance, PLUS some real protection of the front clip in case of trouble, the option of strongly mounting a winch, etc.

The hardest part is snapping off all of those plastic clips. Crawl under and disconnect your factory fog lights. Then, get some needle nose or lineman pliers and start snapping/clipping off those clips. Lastly take off the bolts (8) and thats about it. The entire bumper/plastic assembly probably weighs like 10-15 pounds.

Hey guys, everything was going fine, my only obstacle is getting the bumper around the tow hooks...can anyone help? I don't see where I can remove the hooks with the bumper on
