Default Regearing cost

I got a quote from a local shop for. 1200$ per axle to rear gear from stock 3.73 to 4.56 or 4.88. Sounds outrageous to me. Why is it so much?

Because people are stupid enough to pay it? Or lazy enough to not shop around?

I can see that being a good deal for both axles but way over priced per axle.

Local shop quoted me 80 per hour and an average of 8-10 hours so 800 tops for both axles. Time to find a real shop in your area!

I paid $~1700 total parts and labor for; 5.13 gears, new front carrier, new ball joints, spartan locker in front, master rebuild kits, sleeves, gussets, lower control arm skids. Labor was $700 for all that, he hasn't ever done the plug welded sleeves before so I'm sure he is charging more now that he knows the labor involved.

Because they really don't want the job, but if you'll pay that much they can't say no

My local shop charges 1200 (plus the cost of the gears). And I have two buddies that we t with it already. 14k miles pages from 3:21 up to 5 whatever is working great for him. I do t know the other ones new gears.

Shop around and ask him why the price is so high.
