Regearing
Can anyone explain to me y some ppl were able to use front Dana 30/3.21 carrier when upgrading to 4.88s? Why is it that some ppl didn't need a new carrier, and some ppl did?
Thanks, mike
Thanks, mike

[QUOTE="jadmt;3656623"]I have not heard of anyone using 3.21 front carrier with higher gears
But I can use the Dana 44/3.21 carrier for the 4.88s right?

Yes.
The JK D44 gears/carriers use a "thick" ring gear. This allows one universal carrier to be used. In traditional D44's the ring gear overall was thinner, driving the need for carrier offsets to be different at different ratios. I believe 3.54 is the transition but I'm not positive. Again that doesn't matter for the JK44.
The JK D30 is a traditional 30, meaning the ring rear thickness requires one offset carrier for 3.21 gears, and a different offset carrier for 3.73 and numerically higher.

As a suggestion, since your spending on a new carrier and potentially new spiders, you may want to look into something like a truetrac instead. The D30 spider gears and open carrier are oh so strong (sarcasm)

Ouch, haha. I'll spend the 75 on an open carrier, I'll use the spider gears. Probably still good. Il hoping. Gonna save for front and rear locker.ill be doing it all myself. First time regearing. Studying online and watching videos on YouTube.
