Default Regear & towing

Ok, so I currently have the 3.21 gears and am planning on regearing to turn 35s. I know it currently has a tow rating of 1000#. I occasionally tow a small trailer, but the plans are also for a boat. I know the jeep will easily tow a boat after the regear, but I assume it will still technically and legally be rated at 1000#. My question is, is it possible to have it rerated, or do they take the new gears into consideration. My thought is if I ever were to get into an accident while towing a trailer, I don't want it to automatically be my fault or not have the insurance pay because I was towing over the factory spec.

I believe the 'factory' tow rating on 2door JK's is 1k with 3.21's, and goes to 2k with 3.73 or 4.10 gears, and moves to 3500lbs for the 4doors? So you could easily make the argument for a 2k/3.5k limit. As far as the legality goes, I have read in previous posts on this site that there may be a way to get the legal tow limit raised by going to some type of engineering place? I haven't seen anyone follow up on the idea, though.

Your owner's manual outlines what it takes to make a 4dr rated to tow 3,500 lbs.

Set yours up like that, and you are covered.
