Regear Fuel MPG
Hi, considering regearing my JK but a little concerned about MPG. I'd be shocked if were arn't all paying 4$ a gallon this summer and my JK is my daily driver. I'm running 35" tires with stock gears. I'm guessing they are 3.73's since I have the tow package, maybe the 4.10's. It is a Rubicon. Anyway I'd appricate hearing form people that have gone to 4.56's or 4.88's with a 6 speed trans. Also wondering about install costs typically. Thanks Jeff.

I'm pretty happy with my lift and 35" tires no plans on changing to something bigger, just a little concerned about killing my fuel mileage, but living along the Wasatch front, its not like I'm getting a ton of use out of 6th gear anyway.

As a previous poster said you will get answers all over the board becuase the stock MPG varies so much. Install cost where I live (including the gears) seems to run ~$1,300 which is a little high I think. I did my 5.13 gears myself on my auto. As far as MPG, I averaged 19.5 MPG on paper for 35,000 miles with stock tires and gears. With my 37's and stock gears and OD turned off I averaged 15.1 MPG for ~4,500 miles. With my 5.13's and 37's I can run OD again and my MPG is back up to just under 18MPG (averaged for ~2,000 miles) so overall I lost 1.5 MPG but my wheels and tires are HEAVY. At least it looks good doing it. Performance on the road is back to about stock, maybe better. The gears made a huge difference in the mud and sand.
