Default Receiver Hitch

Hello,
I am a newbie to the Jeep community and to the forums. If I accidentally mis-post this, please let me know. Also, I want to apologize in advance for my stupid newbie questions!!!

My question is:
If I buy a rear bumper that has a hitch built into it, am I still able to use the OEM hitch for my heavier trailer? Would I have to do any mods to make it work? Looking forward to info and being an active member of the forums.

You need to compare the capacities for the new bumper hitch to the OEM hitch. Some are more for show.

Oh, and WELCOME!

The design of the bumper will determine if it interferes with the stock hitch. As stated above, check into the bumper specs to see if it's meant for towing or just a bike rack

Okay, thank you for your replies. Let me try to clarify my question. Even though the bumper has a hitch, (i would prefer not to use for my trailer) am I able to still have and use the OEM hitch on the vehicle. (Both at the same time. Will the hitch on the bumper interfere with the OEM hitch. I hope that helps.
Thanks again.

Yo, buy the smittybilt XRC bumper. Incredible strength improvement over the factory receiver. I've towed 5000 pounds with it using weight distribution hitch. Really, it's a fantastic bumper and integral receiver. It ties the cross bar into the frame using the plate steel of the bumper.

it's rated for 5000 pounds and 500 pound tongue weight. The stock receiver twists when using the weight distribution hitch. The XRC does not. The result is a more controlled tow with less bounce.

This is interesting. I wonder why other bumper manufacturers don't use the same method or design for hitch receivers. It actually helps distribute the weight across entire cross member. And since it attaches to factory hitch mounting holes and the sides of the crossmember like the factory bumper the stress is spread out instead of a 18-24 inch area. Does anyone else have pictures of a rear bumper that has a build in receiver that bolts up like the XRC?
