Rear winch???

Or decide that you can make it across the bottom of a suposedly dry lake bed. Yeah hooke the winch to my buddies truck started dragging him in then hooked another truck up behind him and broke my winch cable. 5 hours later 80 bucks to the crazy cool tow truck driver I was winched out from my rear. if I were to have a mich on the back or one that could mount to the rear hitch I would have been out earlier to wheel more.
been there done that and without a rear winch...
again, it wasn't easy but believe it or not, it can be done. please don't take this the wrong way but experience can help more than a rear winch in situations like this.
and there's nothing wrong with that

its to funny some times how the answers unfold. i never said anything about wheelin alone or absolutly needing a rear winch to get me home. i can't ever see myself being up to the top of the windsheild in water but i want a snorkel

Very similar however the mud was alot soupier and my front bumper was about half way under mud to where I had to dig some out of the way to get a shackle off the front to atach to the rear hitch point to be pulled out. I have a clayton 3.5 lift and 33" tires with ful rock hard skids and the rugged ridge front modular bumper I was basically digging myself deeper in the front when I used my winch until the cable snapped. then I had a few buddies try pulling me out from the rear with two trucks tied together with snatch starps that were about 30 feet each one and even then they didn't have enough traction to pull me out. Here are some that I tried to attach hope they can be seen. the one where I am at was when we first started to try to pull me out then the cable broke because my skids were creating to much of a vacuum to the mud and just made it really soupy. I was able to walk across the top with no problem and that is why I decided to try to cross it after the jeep sank it disturbed the top layer and I sank to my knees around the jeep.

If you want a rear winch I would think that the best and easiest option is to get one in a cradle like Warn has that you can plug into a 2" reciever hitch. Then if you have the same plug on the front bumper you could only have one winch, but use it for either end.

in the photos i posted, the dry lake was more like a thin crust that broke away to a slick and incredibly sticky clay. attempting to crawl out only dug us in deeper and any attempt to spin the wheels fast in an effort to clean the lugs proved to be futile as the clay became a permanent part of the tires. we eventually sunk our axles and skids deep into the muck and pulling ourselves backwards proved to be impossible. the trick here was to use our winch strategically and maneuver ourselves out through a series of side pulls.

Most people want to increase their angle, not decrease it. Are you sure you don't have those terms reversed? With a 2" receiver winch mount you would be able to store the winch on the inside and out of the elements, and you wouldn't do anything to your departure angles since pretty much all bumpers either have a reciever built in.
