Decided to put the rear Riddler on. Don't know if the 513's will arrive in a week or a month, so I just decided it's better to bite the bullet and do it twice instead of risking another peal-back in an already weakened area.

The damage from the inside:

Nodular cast iron. "Nodular" means the iron is ductile, i.e. more malleable than regular cast iron (had to look it up). Supposed to take a lot more abuse than regular cast iron.

Do these coveres require more gear oil than stock? I am thinking of changing them out when I do my first gear oil change.

You certainly could because the fill hole is so high. All you will do is spew nasty-smelling gear oil out the vent tube.

Everything I read said stick with the recommended amount, so that's what I did.

From another thread somewhere in this forum (I copied it out to keep it handy):

FRONT AXLE ± .03 L (1 oz.)
186 FBI (Model 30) 1.0 L (2.1 Pints)
216 RBI (Model 44) 1.3 L (2.7 Pints)

REAR AXLE ± .03 L (1 oz.)
198 RBI (Model 35) 1.83 L (3.8 Pints)
226 RBI (Model 44) 2.25 L (4.75 Pints)
