Default Rear Bumper w/tire carrier - to open with tailgate or not?

hey,

i am looking at getting a new rear bumper w/tire carrier. I am just looking for some opinions.

Should I get a tire carrier that opens with tailgate or opens on it's own?

If you bought a tire carrier that you have to pull a pin then open tailgate .....do regret buying it? is it a PITA?

I am just looking for opinions.....

Thanks,

I have the Hanson Off Road tailgate mounted tire carrier, it opens with the tailgate and you may run any bumper under it.
My buddy, also with a JK, has a pin swing carrier and is a PITA to operate, seems to rattle and you have to double open the rear.

The Hanson has been on my rig for a few years now and I wheel hard (not extreme) and no worries at all, quiet, easy to operate at any angle, etc. I would do the same again with no regrets at all.

How does that mount to the tailgate? doesnt it put strain on the factory hinges?

Mine had a Teraflex rear bumper/tire carrier that has the pin/latch mechanism when I bought it. A couple of times I thought it would be nice to have the integrated swing-out unit, but it hasn't been a big enough deal that I'd ever consider spending the money to swap.

The Hanson sits on top of the hinges, and longer bolts through them, then bolts to the center of the tailgate, where the factory tire carrier was removed from. I have not seen any drop in the tailgate and this is my DD so it wheel's, runs to the store and work, etc.
I installed the Hanson at about 9,000 miles and 2 1/2 years ago - I now am almost at 40,000 miles.

I have the AEV Tire Carrier w/ stock bumper. It opens with the tailgate and is Awesome! It stopped my rattle and is solid. Will upgrade to the bumper eventually, but this allowed me to split the cost.

I have a bumper mounted carrier. It's my wifes dd and I know if it was her choice again wed go with a tailgate swinger. She thinks its a pain to deal with when she has to load stuff in the back. I could care less, myself.

my opinion, there's only benefits to having the tire carrier open with the tailgate. I figured I didn't want the kids opening the trunk and forgeting to properly secure the latch, so purposely bought a carrier that integrated with the tailgate, Expedition One. I also wanted full width, many aren't.

I just bought a bumper with tire carrier that is integrated with the door and has a hitch and led lights for 795. This thing is solid 1/4 inch thick steel. I will upload some pics, but look up ace engineering and fab on facebook.
