Guess I better reprogram it befor I take it for a ride.
I don't believe the pro cal is necessary if your re gearing with a manual shift. But i could be wrong

I've been curious about that as well. I went ahead and reprogrammed for my 4.88 gears on my 6 speed, but the instructions seem to indicate it's only necessary to correct shift points on an auto.

Ive done gears in a few 12 & 13s, all manuals and never had any issues, gears in my 08 auto didn't cause any problems either.
I'm guessing with an auto it could be seeing the tranny spinning at one speed and the wheel speed sensors spinning faster then they should so it thinks something is wrong. If that's the case the procal will fix it. It doesn't matter that you've driven it.
Driving it in limp mode wont hurt it, as long as you don't rev too high for long.

I thought recalibrating the speedo was only done when installing larger tires, not for regearing???

The computer is programmed to know if the rear spins say 3.21 times for one rotation of the tire, when you regear its now spinning say 5.13 times for a rotation, but the computer has no way of knowing that so it thinks the tires are spinning more then once.

To the computer, regearing is the same as changing tire size.

Wheel speed is reported from the wheel speed sensors.

The auto needs to have the gear ratio programmed so the shift points and engine rpm is in harmony.

On the manual transmission JK there's no need to program the gear ratio.

With an automatic, reprogramming is necessary for the or react shift points, speedo and traction control/ESP issues.

The manual only requires programming to correct speedo and traction control/ESP. Not really required, but I would do it because it may still help drivability issues.

My automatic was not too bad going from the factory steelies to the factory alloys but when I reprogrammed it with my Bullydog tuner, it did change the shift points and correct the speedo. Noticeable difference on the street.

A good shop would have known that before even swapping out gears. Instead of leaving you stranded waiting for something else to come in to fix it.
