re-gear for 35s?

re-gear for 35s?
Sorry if this has been beaten to death, but I really don't understand wha to type in to get a solid answer on this. Do you need to regear for 35's? I am new to this and really don't know If I want to go with 33's or 35's. any experiences would be cool. I don't want to start modifying my entire jeep, I just want to put some wheels/tires and a lift on and have the thing operate properly. Thanks!

I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC JK X. I have 35's on mine with 3.73 gearing (stock)....you notice the shifting is off at first, as well as loss of power. It's been about a year now, and i have learned how fast i need to go for gas efficiency and i've made other modifications to make up for power (power programmer, AIRAID intake) it's all fine without regearing. I plan on moving up to 37's eventually and i think i will regear to 4:10 at that point.

whoops, I just noticed the sticky at the top of the page. That answered some of my questions. I guess my next question is "what is re-gearing". I don't even know what that means, does that involve physically changing the gears? or does someone just move some stuff around in there? If this comes across as me joking... sorry. I wish so badly that I understood anything about vehicles.

Hey smuhhh, I think your gonna get a lot of posts as confusing as you might think, but for what it's worth, I have 35's and am running the stock gearing, I have an 08 Rubicon with 410's and an automatic trans, it does effect the overdrive when your in town driving but when you recallabrate for the larger tires (as is needeed anyway) it helps quite a bit.
I am going to regear sometime in the furture but not for awhile. I just trun of O.D. when im in town or wheeling.
In short, dont let the whole regearing thing stop you, with the O.D. off the tranny doesn't "hunt" near as bad as you think.

A little info on the jeep. its a 2dr 07 standard trans. So I guess it would be possible to install a lift/tires/requisite parts and then determine if it felt too sluggish? I wasn't sure if it was a mandatory thing to do prior to driving with bigger tires.

Get 35's and see how they do. A lot depends on where you live. The guys in Florida, with no hills, are fine with 35's and 3.73s. The Folks in more hilly areas tend to hate the loss of power more.
