Re-gear for 33's?
I have a 6-speed 4 door 2008 and plan on getting 33's. I just purchased Superchips' Flashpaq. I also plan on getting an intake and exhaust system, probably Banks.
Is re-gearing necessary?

If you have 3.21's you'll definitley want to re-gear, 3.73's you should be ok. Programmer, intake and exhaust will make a little bit more power but they arent a substitute for re-gearing.

Hunty's Jk 33's 4.56's
Hi white noise
I have an 07 6 speed running 33's MTZ's which I regeared from 3.21 to 4.56 and in 6th gear the tacho went from 1800rpm @ 70 mph 3.21's to 2800rpm 4.56's @ 70mph in hind sight I probably should have goten 4.11's but WOW the jeep has gone from slug to yee haa
I absolutely love it - i can leave nissans and toymotas standing like they are stuck in mud! and in low range 1st now feels almost like a crawler gear!
I highly recommend it - 4.11's if you need to preserve the fuel economy on the freeway, 4.56's if you want to have the feel of a sports car! LoL as you can see in the pic i tow a 3 bike trailer and can normally stay in 6th all day long with only the ocasional drop down to 5th
cheers Hunty

Great input.
It is primarily a daily driver that goes on the beach ever so often. We hear on Long Island aren't blessed with great areas to wheel. I do plan on travelling a bit one day to try it out though.
I wanted to be sure I wasn't going to turn my Jeep into a slug, you know us crazy NY drivers.
Thanks for all the replies!

BTW: General consensus is that 4.56 gears are very difficult to find right now. Not certain what the issue is.
*Annoying because instead of spacing themselves so folks could pass, they were riding chockablock, making it like one extra long semi--an Australian road train as it were.
