Default Rancho 4-inch sport lift driveshaft questions.

Hey y'all!
So I just took up the offer that rancho is offering for my wife's jeep. I bought the 4 inch sport system. Now it won't be going on right away since I wanna buy 35s and gears for it first, I would rather do everything all at once. So this is my family and I don't wanna be worrying at all. Again this jeep will only be a mall driver and it is her dd. I have heard both sides about the driveshaft but honestly, do I need to change it? And is there anything else I need to do at the time of install that you would recommend? The last thing I wanna do is leave my loved one on the side of the road.

Thanks for any help

I was looking at that lift, and Rancho said that you dont need to replace the driveshaft. Or that some people do, but it was not required. But im not sure what is different with that lift that makes it not need one, where with other lifts they say anything over 3" does need one.
So it seems to me, that i would just wait on it, and if you start noticing anything out of the ordinary, then look to change it

You don't need to change gears if its a 2012, you will be fine. I just ordered the 3 inch trail system. I already have a body lift so I did not go with the 4. As far a the drive shaft if your just a mall crawler I don't see replacing it right now. I've heard guys going 10,000 miles and no problems with light wheeling. Goodluck

I have that lift as well. I haven't put it on yet because I'm still waiting on 4wd.com to send the shocks I bought, they were back ordered apparently. I contacted rancho directly about the drive shaft and I was told that on a 4dr with a manual transmission it most likely wouldn't be a problem. And only during instances of extreme articulation should I be concerned. Just keep an eye on things and I would imagine you'll be fine if it's just a DD.

I ripped my front ds boot and joint out of the transfer case. I have the rancho 4" auto tranny. It is not because of rancho. Its because of the 4 inches. If you disconnect the front axle, the ds boot will hit the aito tranny skid plate. Also, at 4" the angle of the joint out of the transfer case is too steep and steeper when you disconnect. If you don.t wheel it and disconnect, you may be ok. Jsut check the boot and joint at each oil change.

If you aren't going to disconnect the front sway bar and go rock crawling or climb through trenches, you don't have anything to worry about w/ the front drive shaft. The whole problem with the front ds is that the longer shocks + a disconnected swaybar = more droop than factory specs were made for so the driveshaft contacts the transmission skid and tears the boot that seals the two sections of the driveshaft. So as long as the curbs she'll be crawling at the mall aren't too big I think you'll be alright.

Thanks bro, is there anything I need to buy you can think of? Maybe brake line extensions?
