Default Rally Jeep

Hello Everyone,

I have been following JK forum since before I bought my 2008 Rubicon 4 door. I have a slightly different purpose for my Jeep than most. I need a Jeep that can:

Drive down gravel and desert 2 track at speed with out breaking anything. I will be driving on this type of surface a lot. I usually like to try to do 65 to 70 on most gravel "highways" and 45 to 50 on the two track.

I need to haul at least one 300 pound motorcycle on a rear rack while driving on the gravel and two track. I will ocasionally pull a trailer. My 1300 pound empty (3500 full) enclosed trailer will pretty much just be pulled on good gravel roads and over paved mountain passes and highways. I have a light weight trailer to use on gravel when needed, it will have about 600 pounds of bikes and gear when I use it. I may also get some sort of pop top camper this year.

I need be able to drive it to work and get groceries when I am not on my motorcycle. (anything can do this)

I am planning on doing the Alcan rally, some Rallymoto events, and maybe some Rallycross. I would like to be able to enter the Jeep as a competing support vehicle in the long distance rally's. We are not talking subaru WRX type stuff. A friend won his class in a 4 runner in the Alcan winter Rally.

Here is my build list so far:

Remote reservoir shock with air bump stops. I will level the front, but I do not want to lift the jeep. I will run the stock Rubicon tire size, and smaller for snow and ice.

I will put some matching rear shocks on. I also want air bags in the rear to compensate for a bike and the hitch.

A light weight rear bumper that can carry 2 tires, fuel, and recovery tools.

I want a front bumper with a pre-runner style hoop. I would really like a skid plate that goes up the hoop a ways and down under the truck to keep rocks and deer bones out of the important stuff. I will use aluminum, or high density plastic. I do not rock crawl, I just need to defect flying rocks.

I want a really light weight winch with remote solenoids.

Rock slider extenders designed to keep the gravel and mud off the sides. I know it may look cool to have a muddy jeep, but when doing a lot of unpaved driving, the dirt build up starts to become annoying.

I may need to weld in a proper cage, I do not think the sport cage will pass tech.

HID conversion for headlights and fog lights. I will add 2 8" driving lights to the front bumper, and two floods on the windshield. I have been looking for some movable floods that can be used as work lights for the bikes.

I will end up doing a CAI and catback exhaust. I would like to do a RIPP supercharger, but probably can not afford too until the 3 and 36 warranty is up.

Basicly, I want a dakar truck set up to support bikes and be able to compete in support class better than a pick up truck. I also want a Jeep that can rip through the desert, day after day with out being ruined for highway and fast mountain pass use. I am not really soliciting comments or advice here, but do welcome it.

I am going to try some Rally cross in the Jeep at the next event. I drive like this all the time, and don't see I shouldn't go up against the Subaru's. Watch some local action here, and if you are in the area, join me. Jeep VS. Jeep would be fun.

Default Some events I will do in the the, or support bikes in...

http://www.alcan5000.com/ The winter rally would be great in the jeep, I would rather do the summer rally on a bike with my Jeep as support.

http://www.rallymoto.com/ I do this on a bike and like to have a bad ass support truck for it. The Jeep will drive the course but not at speed.

I would def go with CAI, just be prepared for frequent cleanings and oilings. I think there only drawback is in water...
