I just use a narrow few wraps of electrical tape at the bottom center of the d-ring. Does the job

Ballcock shank washers! Yes I said ballcock... The are in the toilet parts area of lowes or menards and only a buck or so. The isolators above help some but the washers hold them from side to side and then you can say the name when someone asks what they are.

on my 2006 LJ i went to ace hardware and bought some rubber o-rings from the plumbing department that fit over the shaft, used one or two on each side to quiet them.

X2 on the Daystar isolators. Available in several colors and they work great. Can't believe people run without them, or go ghetto with duct tape.

I took them off and tossed them in the back as they don't really need to be on there driving down the street. Quiet as can be and $0.

X2. free to do, no clanking noise, and no one can unscrew them and walk off.
