Default Quiet MTs on the highway?

I'm planning on moving to 35' tires on AEV pintlers (probably). What are your oppinions on the best MT tire that is also very quiet on the highway? Looking at the BFG KM/2, Nitto MG, Cooper STT, MT MTZ etc. Would 33s be quieter then 35s? Thanks

My Pro Comp Xtreme M/T's are really surprisingly quiet. I attribute that to the line in the lug, it acts like a sipe. I can't speak for their sidwall durability, though.

I also have the BFG KM2's and I am very happy with how quite they are on the highway, much better than the GY mtr's I had on my TJ.

There have been a few threads on here about the cooper sst's and from what I've read they are quite on the highway, more so that the similar toyo. Mkjeep has run both and he says the coopers were quieter I believe. I'm looking at some myself.

There is no best MT tire in general because we all have different criteria.

If road noise is your most important criteria:

I would have to say the KM2s are/appear to be the quietest for two reasons:

1. Their noise level is slightly lower than most if not all the ones on your list
2. The noise they make is not the traditionally buzz saw or growling noise that most MTs make.
At highway speeds it turns into more of hum that blends in with the aerodynamic and engine noise.

The smaller tires might have smaller lugs but they also turn faster than larger tires, so the smaller ones could be louder at any given speed.

The STTs are a bit louder, but also don't sound like a buzz saw.

All of those tires are off road capable, but some are better in different types of terrain.

I have the Goodyear Duratracs and so far they are great. I know they are technically not an MT, but they do have MT like outside lugs with AT type inside lugs. Very quite and aggressive when you need it.

My Dick Cepeks are loud as hell!
They are great off road, though.

I have the Cooper STT's in 35s and they are very quiet even compared the POS Bridgestone dueler AT that came with my jeep.

My vote goes for the Toyo Open Country MT's ..... very quiet and long wearing. Plus an excellent offroad tire.
