Quick question about VDP Stubby End Cap install
Hello:
The instructions for installing these end caps say to measure 3.5 inches from the top and front bumper pad, mark with tape, and then cut the end of the bumper off along the -inside edge- of the tape. Does that mean the center of the tape is supposed to be at the 3.5 inch mark and you're actually cutting a little closer than 3.5 inches from the bumper pad or is the inside edge of the tape supposed to lie on the 3.5 inch mark? My impression is that it should be the latter.
I know the instructions say the 3.5 inches is not a precise measurement but I thought I might as well do this as close to how they intend as possible. Sorry if this is a stupid question...
Thanks for your help,
Steve

Measure the 3.5 then put your tape down so the outside of the tape is at 3.5 so as your cutting you can use it as a guide you could also put the inside of the tape on the 3.5 you could even just draw a line its really just a guide & the tape is supposed to help with debris I guess

I just drew it on with a marker and it was a little hard to see the line once you start. So using the tape as a guide is the way to go. Also I tried using a multipurpose saws all blade and it gripped and almost hurt my hand. I switched to a metal only blade and it went through the plastic part and the metal part of the bumper like butter.

I did mine im no artist cause even if you cut little more or little less the caps will cover it up. Took less than half hour and i love it!

I used the Rugged Ridge caps but its exactly the same. when i was done i sanded all the surfaces and bedlined the whole thing to make it match better. Turned out great. My next plan was to put a line of silicone on the seam it creates and smooth that out. Once done i was going to bedline again. Before this could happen i bought a new bumper and am now trying to sell my stock stubby. its posted in the for sale section.
