Default Questions on lifting from a newbie

Doing my research on this and probably not looking to pull the trigger for a few weeks to a month or so.. But I do have a few questions from all of you who have been in my shoes! I have a stock 07 unlimited x 4 door. I have the basic mechanical knowledge, but have never lifted anything or owned a Jeep!

1. About how much am I looking at with a 2-3 inch lift
- I'm of course looking into new rims/tiers of course and I would love req on that!

2. Brands I should stay away from?
3. Any issues I'm bound to run into?
4. I have the basic tools, with that said anything in that category I'll need to invest in?
5. Anything else you would like to add!

Thanks for any and all help!

Way to many variables here. It depends a lot on your budget and type of wheeling or none wheeling you want to do. I've got rough country series 2 lift with home made quick discos with paramount front bumper and 35" trail grapplers. Love my setup so far and have wheeled some pretty hardcore trails recently. I've spent about 3500 on everything so far

Stickied right to the top of this Modified area are some FAQ's. Those should answer a few questions and probably give you more that you hadn't thought of.

Then go up to the Write-ups area. Stickied at the top is an Index. Browse through a few lift installs, lots of good step by step pics. You will also find a DIY Alignment writeup in there, good info to know. (there is a great picture of the front end components here ).

Also stickied to the top of the write-ups area is a great guide to diagnosing shimmy and Death Wobble, which is worth a read regardless of whether you have any unexplained shimmy or not.

That should give you at least a dozen more questions to ask...

Basic tools are good. Invest in a set of large 1/2" sockets. Starting with 17mm and up to about 35mm. Also get a set if SAE big sockets and wrenches. 13/16, 7/8, and up. Get a good 1/2 drive torque wrench( you will use it a LOT!!!) . And a saws all. Also a lot of torx fasteners on a Jeep. Everything from the door mounts to the soft top/hard top mounts are torx. On an '07 you'll also want a roll of paper towels to keep handy to check the oil level weekly. They burn it like a lamp.

As far as lifts? Go cheap and spend more in the long run, or buy big money lift up front and listen to forum members tell you how your drive shafts are gonna fail and the axles need every reinforcement on earth or they are gonna crack, break, bend, or just flat explode. If they don't then you aren't a man. Haha.

Have fun. And be glad you don't drive a Hummer or a FJ.

Sent from the fast lane while driving one handed.

Default 2" Bb w/ stock shocks

I know it's been gone over before many times but the search bar is not helping me. I'm putting on an AEV 2" BB, but it's used ( and free) and does not come with link arm extensions or shock extensions. Comes with bump stops and coil spacers. I do mainly on road and offroad hunting trails. Would my stock shocks be ok till I wear them out and have to get the right length ones? Jeep is a 2011 JKU Sahara.

You will be fine with the shocks. You may not even need the bump stops. Are you running a larger tire then stock?

No larger tire yet. I plan on running 33" Duratracs when I get the cash. I'll get spacers with those too when I get them.
