Question about soft tops......
Hi guys! I have a question about soft tops.
I have a 2012 JK unlimited with factory hard top. I am wanting to put a softop on for the summer.
I have an opportunity to buy a 2008 factory soft top, but the guy is telling me there is some door surrounds that are included with it. What are the door surrounds and will I need them with my 2012? Can anyone explain what these are? WIll a 2008 soft top work with my 2012?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Well first off, soft tops from 07-09 will need the surrounds of those years due to the fact that the canvas tucks into the surrounds.. Most tops will fit any year but you'll need to be sure that you get all of the parts for the years top.. "don't forget about the rear roll bar mounting bracket that the top connects to"..
If you purchase an older top some modification may be needed to make the top lay flat at the header, you see through the years the tops have changed slightly.. like the position of the footman loop where the top meets the header was moved over a bit, thus making older tops header interfere with the footman loop but this can be fixed by removing the loop because it is not need when running the soft top. Just keep in mind that it is needed when running the hard top, another option is to cut away a small piece of the plastic header of the soft top to make room for the footman loop.
I hope this helps, if you have any other question just ask..
Good Luck,
Augi
