Default Question about plastic liner in rear fender flares

Would i weaken the rear fender flare mounts if i cut the plastic liner ?
The tires are rubbing the liner at full stuff, not super bad, but enough to touch the edge of the flares, and one of the plastic studs that hold the flares went almost out, so i wanted to cut cut the liner with an exacto knife and be done with them, while leaving the flares in place, but grinding a little portion of the edge of the flare to prevent the tire from touching the flares in that spot. i have 33's, and i don't want to run aftermarket flares as it may look goofy.

You can see the stud out here

Turn them into flat fenders yourself with a dremal and be done with it, no more rubbing. Left the front inner fenders in and took the rears out. These fenders will rip off if the tire or something else hits it hard enough anyways. Allows more up travel and you don't have to lift your Jeep higher just to clear the tires.

Shows it a little better throughout the cutting process.

I'm already lifted, about 2 1/4", and if I'm turn them flat, the gap between the tire and the fender will look too big as the tire is 32.5"
I'll cut the liner and take it all off, then shave a little spot from the flare edge from the inside, where the tire will rub at full stuff, the tire is able to go full stuff for the most part except for perhaps 2" worth of the edge of the flare, I'm also running a 1" bumpstop in the back, it wouldn't rub with 2", but the extra little travel is nice to have, I'll turn them flat if I had 35's.

Yep, take as much or as little off as you want. I pulled the rear liners out in mid-08 and just sprayed the wheel well with duplicolor bedliner.

If you break any clips, or just want extras:

Very nice to know we can get those clips if needed nthinuf, thanks for the link.
I pulled the liner without any issues, took me 1 min per side after cutting them with the exacto, night was coming in so i'll shave the edges of the flares tomorrow.
