Q. for the people who have the hood "bug deflector"
I need to know if it actually works before I buy one.
My windshield is constantly being peppered with an endless barrage of varying size bugs.
My wipers suck!! I always end up with bug gut stew smeared all over the place..
Any insight would be greatly appreciated

I do not have one myself but every post I have read say they are only good for deflecting rocks from nicking the hood. I did a little research after a trip to Florida. Had to pull over twice and use the gas station window scrubbers.

I've never had a plastic bug deflector, however on my TJ I did have the little hood portion of a bra that had a deflector built in, and it made a big difference in bugs, and in general small rock impacts seemed much less frequent.

Yes, it works. You can see how the aero dynamics cause the bugs to move over the windshield. It doesn't get every bug, but it goes down. I mainly got it to stop the damn pebbles from hitting my windshield.

I find that when the bugs are bad it doesn't totally help but does help the bottom portion of the windshield wiper area. Because of the change in aerodynamics the bugs/pebbles no long bounce off the front of the hood and hit the windsheild.

what i cannot stand is that the wipers of the JK are almost worthless on the lower end of the windshield. Thought it might be the blades but now I'm thinking it's a combination of bad aerodynamics and poor wiper arm spring retention as the blades appear to be lifting off of the glass at speed.
I too have thought about the deflector but cannot stand how they look on a vehicle. Might have to bite the bullet just to see if the deflector will stop some of the wiper lift. That way the cleaner can do it's job and remove the bugs.
