Default putting a 3.5 in lift on my 2009 jk unlimited need help w/ tire sizes.

hello i am putting a 3.5 in lift on my jk 2009 unlimited. and need help with the tire sizes. I am keeping the stock rims and just wan to go bigger. my rims are 16in rims. my original tires were 225/75/16. Am looking at some Mickey Thompson - Baja Radial STZ for them just want to know if they would fit. the size is 265/75R16. If you guys have any other tire types and sizes i would appreciate it. thanks

with 3.5" of lift, you'll really want to run a 315 or 35" tire as it will be a much better fit. in order to run them with your stock wheels, you will need to get a set of 1.5" wheel spacers.

definitely go with a 35'' tire with a 3.5'' lift, 265's are way too small!

265/75/16s are about 31.5", if that's the tire size you want don't waste your money on a lift, the stock rubicon tires are around 32.1". If you are going with that much lift you shoudl consider 35s, minimum 295/75/16 33".

Is it safe to run with wheel spacers? I know back in the 90s wheel spacers were consider dangerous. Are wheel spacers made better now?

high quality spacers that bolt up to your axle and then your wheels to it are totally safe to use. once installed, they will behave no differently than a wheel with less back spacing and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. cheap thin spacers that just get sandwiched in between your axle and wheel are dangerous and should not be used.

The only issue with running the spacers is if you go to get you bugger tires with the wheel spacers on. Most major named tire company's (America/discount tire) will not mount your tires with the spacer on. The only thing you can do is pull your rear sway bar links have them pull the spacers off go home reinstall spacers and links or you can find small local shop that will install unfortunately the price will be higher from a small shop.

I run 35's on my stock rims. Technically they are about 1/2" to narrow for a 12.50 wide tire but it has worked fine for me. You for sure have to use 1-1/2" wheel spacers. It looks and rides much better also. One added thing, you will want to trim the ears off the lower front valance (the plastic piece under the front bumper) if you still have it as it will rub when you tun full tilt.

Ref wheel spacers I used the spider trax spacers for a while and they were high quality and caused no issues. I eventually bought new rims, partially for the reason of being able to easily get my tires rotated and balanced. With wheel spacers discount tires wouldn't do them.
