Default Proof 2012 Rubicons on 35s need 456 gears

I think I found the hard evidence I've been looking for regarding regearing my 2012 Rubicon on 35's. My friend turned me onto this site which compares Max Speed for each tranny gear given tire size and axel gear.

The first chart below compares gear max speeds between 3.73 and 4.10 gears on 32 inch tires. You can see how the 4:10 shorten the max speed of each gear.

The second chart shows what happens to the max gear speeds when you move up to 35 in tires on 4:10 gears. You will notice by upping the tire size you are actually very close to the Rubicon on 32 inch tires using 3.73's.

The third Chart shows 35 inch tires using 4.56 gears compared to 4.10s using the stock 32 in Rubicon tires. As you can see by going with the 4.56s on 35s that you actually come extremely close to replicating the same speeds as a 32in wheel using 4.10s.

If you have a 2012 Rubicon and you want to regain the stock pep after you put 35 in tires on your jeep, you can get this be regearing to 4:56.

This is what I needed to see and now I know that regearing is in the future for me.

I have a 2012 JKU with 3:21's and 35" tires and it drives fine so yeah you can spend the money to regear I plan on it when I upgrade my axles but I have had plenty of people tell me how much faster it is then re-geared 3.8 liter engines. So it is staying at 3:21 for now.

so...4.88 and 37's should be close to replicating stock on a rubicon?

4.56's are perfect, however, I am completely satisfied with 4.10s, AT and 35s. I feel a slight power loss with the 35s but honestly it isn't very noticable. I felt the 4.10s with 32s were too much gear anyway since I would run about 2,700 RPM at 70 mph. Compared to my prior Jeep (stock 2011 Rubicon with 4.10s and 32s) this setup is still much better. I wouldn't spend the money to upgrade simply because I am satisfied with the performance of my Jeep for how I am using it. To be fair I leave in central NC and it's pretty flat around here... it may be a different story for anyone who lives in the mountains.

I have an '08 2dr on 37's with 5:13's and a six speed .... DOG
I have a '12 4dr on 35's with stock 4:10's and an automatic...BEAST. Honestly I don't feel a loss of power. The 2012 gear chart has 4:10 and 35" in the green, I think 4:56 is overkill.

Nice work! Thank you for posting this! The big question still remains if it is worth the money to re-gear unless you go to a large change like 5.13s. I have a 2009 with 4.10s and 35" - just great - no complaints :-)

I am completely satisfied with my 12 with 4.10 on 37" tires. I would never drop $1200 to regear, especially with 35s.
