Default ProCal or FlashCal

For the same money would you get the AEV ProCal or the Superchips FlashCal? I have a 2010 JKU auto that I will be adding 33s to soon.

For a 2010 I'd get the FlashPaq... more options than FlashCal. Worked great on my 2008. Now that I have a 2013, I plan on the FlashCal, but I'm going to miss those tune options.

I read a lot about people using the ProCal and it seems the Flashcal does most if not all of the same things. I figured I could live with the horsepower just needed to make sure speedo was correct. Are the tunes on the flashpac worth the extra money?

On an auto, my opinion yes, its worth it. You need that extra bit of power. The tow tune I found to be the best one.

There have been many very long threads discussing that question. With an auto, the general consensus was that yes, the flashpaq adds enough power to be worth the extra money. (been quite a while, but maybe 10hp at the normal rpm range most of us use? Somewhere around 18hp way up in the rpm band?)

(auto, 5.13 and 35's. Then 5.38 and 35's) Around town I noticed no seat-of-the-pants difference, though on the freeway I stayed in OD a bit longer. MPG's, I think most of the gain I saw was more due to me changing my driving style after reading other peoples reviews, than anything the flashpaq specifically did. But I have never been overly anal about tracking mpg's on lifted vehicles with big tires, so maybe the flashpaq did more than I realized.

Anyway, I sold it and kept the procal. Now that the prices of used flashpaqs are coming way down, (several in the $140-150 range recently on local craigslist), and since I moved up to 37's, I have been considering getting another. If you decide to buy used, buy it local and 'verify' that it works before handing over the money. Sucks to buy one that is still locked to the previous VIN.

The tunes are absolutely worth the extra money! I have a 08 manual with 33's and 3.21 gears and I was miserable with the performance. I got the flashpaq and put the 91 octane tune on it, filled up with some mid grade and WOW! It was like when I had little tires! I still can't wait to regear, but it is a ton better than it was! The crawl tune is awesome too!

Thanks for all the great information. I will have to look hard at the Flashpac.
