Default Problem with XR8 Smitty winch

Hey guys. I have the XR8 winch with synth rope that I bought in Feb 2010. I've used it maybe 5 times since I've owned it and it has worked great and got me out of a few jams as well as others. Anyway I was wheeling yesterday and got stuck pretty good. So when I went to use my winch, it was able to power out the line but it did not pull in. The green light on the controller blinked but no power. I inspected the wire connections and they were all tight. This leads me to believe that either:

1. The controller is bad
2. The solenoid is bad
3. The winch motor itself is bad

Anyone experience this? How did you fix it! Any help would be appreciated.I sent a message about this on the Smittybilt site. I hope I can fix this winch or have it warranted.

Btw, I do/did not submerge this winch in water or mud. I also keep it covered at all times when not in use. There was no abuse to this winch.

Did you try engaging it on the winch..I sometimes have to disengage then engage a few times for it to catch.

It's not an engagement issue. The motor does not work when pulling in, only out.

Might be the control box. May not be sending the solenoid the "out" signal. Maybe remove and reinstall all your wires? Especially the ones between the controller and motor. Try sanding the contact surfaces a little and apply some dielectric grease.

Thanks, good suggestions. I'll give these a try.
