I drilled the holes tonight and am getting together with a buddy tomorrow to weld them in. My thoughts thus far...
I hope tomorrow goes well and I can post back tomorrow that it is all together!
- They recommend using a 1/4" drill bit and then a 1/2". I found that I started smaller than that, then hit it with something around a 5/16" and then a 1/2". Doing it in smaller increments worked much faster, and kept the metal coming out in larger "curls" rather than little chunks.
- Harbor freight drill bits are cheap crap! I probably lean on it a little too hard, but then again I broke at least a dozen bits, including the 1/2" bit!
- Harbor freight 90 degree drill is similar quality to drill bits! Pneumatic drill worked much better .
- The sleeves no longer need to go into the freezer before, and actually slid in a little loose for my taste. Probably not a problem, but it surprised me a little...
- I did this with the axle on jack stands on the floor of my garage. I couldn't imagine doing it with the axle on the Jeep unless you have a lift.
I hope tomorrow goes well and I can post back tomorrow that it is all together!

Before you put them in could you put a micrometer on them to see what the OD is. From what I understand Mt Logan sleeves require a few taps from a BFH to get them in. Unless they are snug it seems that all the load will be carried by the plug welds. Any body know the OD of the Mt Logan sleeves? And of course there is the issue of how consistent the ID of the JK axles is. If it's like everything else it there could be a wide vriation in ID's.
update: battery in my micrometer was dead when I went to measure tonight, so I'll try to find a new battery tomorrow.
