Default PR44 and 40s

I have a debate going on with a couple of guys I work with and a couple friends..

Ill try to keep this short and to the point...

The debate is will a PR44 w/ ARB Locker, Dynatrac BJ's, RCV Shafts, Reid Knuckles, 1350 Yoke, 5.38 gear, ATX slabs, 40x1350 Nitto Muds, Spidertrax 1.5/ or 1.75 spacers work??

For me it seems like the max extreme on this axle, to much gear in a 44, to much stress on unit bearings..... But I'm told it will work...

Rig is driven an average of 10 miles a day, will be off road a half dozen times a year, mainly moderate trails as their isn't many where I'm from to begin with..

Edit: This will be on max lift of 4in-4.5in
Thoughts opinions welcome, criticism as well..

Not an answer, but skip the spacers and order the axle wider than stock. No sense in adding stress to the bearings and axle.

I agree. On the wider axle can the PR44 be ordered wider? I know the 60 can but haven't seen that option for the 44, May not be looking in the right place though

Yes. You can customize width, pinion angle, brackets, tubing, etc. (taken right from their website, but I know people who have ordered different widths).

It's kind of the same argument as 'can I run 38's/40's on a d30?' Can you, yes. Should you, ...?

Since it sounds like you are buying, and don't already own it, why settle for a customized pr44 that will end up being close to the price a 60? Just get a 60 and be done with it.

Yes, get one that is at least 3" wider then stock and caster corrected for you 4" lift. I would really want a lock out hub as well and get rid of the crappy jk unit bearing. Your only option with the pro rock though is the spyntec conversion and once you add everything up you might as well buy a 60. This would require different wheels as you cant get a lock out hub in a 5x5 bolt pattern.

I'm not on 40's but rather 37's. Up front to replace my d30 on my '13 Sport, I have the pr44 with the beefed up knuckles and RCV axels. 5:13's and ARB air locker. We debated 44 vs 60 and finally talked to one of the engineers at Dynatech. By the time we were done, he talked me into the 44 as the extra $ to go to 60 front was $4k more and I would have had to upgrade the back as well to 60 which would have been another $10k on top.

In his words, "they have done a ton of pr44's with 37's and he hasn't seen any fail yet."

Yeah, can't say I've heard of a PR44 housing break (excluding rock buggies). The RCVs are warrantied. That leaves the R&P. I don't know what the actual data is, but I've come across more D60 R&P failures (partly due to a guy who blew three in a Currie) than D44s. I'd be interested to see how many D44 R&P failures there are.

The data is probably pretty useless at that point though. Too many variables.

That said, I'd definitely step up to a D60 in the rear on 40" tires. Or at least truss the housing.
