Default Poison spyder DIY swing down carrier

I really want a swing down carrier for my jk that has great clearance

I looked at the evo tire carrier but I'm not convinced by it just yet. I know it's a great carrier but I'm not sure it would be right for me

I Know psc makes a do it yourself kit, but I have read that the reason they do not sell a kit for the jk is because the sheet metal cannot handle this type of carrier

I'm curious, has anyone bothered to solve this problem or fix it? Would using their crusher corners not help at all?

I'm exploring all my options here and I am definitely set on having a carrier that wraps around the tire and pulls it up at a good clearance angle.

Did some research and learned that everyone says this is "impossible" because The rear corners would flex.

How has no one thought of a fix yet?

You're in semi-uncharted territory, but have you looked at other manufacturers and seen what they're doing? It's either poison spyder or genright that has a kit for the TJ/ YJ/ CJ that swings down like what you're talking about. I'm sure with some fab to the hinges you could make them work.

Another source of info would be brut4ce (Travis). He's built a few rigs and has his own shop now but on one of them I do recall a drop down tire carrier.

Other guys have done it before, and specifically I recall one story where the body flexed enough to rip the nutserts out of the body resulting in the loss of a corner.

Brut4ce swapped out his rear body mounts to a much firmer poly mount to reduce the amount of differential flex between the body and frame. I do believe he sells those body mounts as well

Good info. This is sounding like a lot of work for a dream carrier lol..
