I just had a thought. Yes, I do get them occasionally. Look for any place that is shiny that shouldn't be. Maybe that is where something is hitting where it shouldn't. Did that make any sense?s

I took everyone's suggestions..checked my knuckles , turned the steering wheel and have spent the past two nights under the jeep while Bill bounced the front end (sounds dirty, doesnt it?). Thought I was going to lose a hand under there , but I finally narrowed it down to this, ahem, "thing". (I know, it's like the blind leading the blind over here...)

So I used his muscles to tighten it up and the problem seems to be eliminated...for now

Is it possible to grease it without taking it all apart? I have to take it apart to do it right, don't I?

Thanks again for all of the help - I got a little sense of pride that I could finally narrow down the problem myself (with everyone's help and suggestions...and someone to bounce the bumper...and someone stronger than me to tighten it...). Give me another couple of months and I'll be an old hand at this!

thats the track bar...

no, you'll need to take it down to lube it properly... Use some good heavy white lithium greese, dont be scared, use alot of it...

Good job on the find! check your back track bar and make sure its properly lubed as well..

I usually tighten all my arms and track bars once a month.. Same on my TJ. Just to make sure everythings good!

If I remember correctly thats a 13/16 socket...

Good, I was pretty sure that was the track bar...just double checking

I could tell it was going to be a constant maintenance item when I took the jeep out for a ride to see if the noise was gone - it was, but just before I got back to the house I could hear an occassional clank coming from the right side this time!

At least I now how to fix it before it gets as loud as the driver's side was.

So locktite and grease...seems kind of counterintuitive to me but I'll give it a shot.

Thanks again! I'd be so lost with out you guys!

Same here. Mine starts ticking again after about a week or so. It was making all sorts of noise this morning. There has got to be a more permanent solution. Looks like I will be pulling it completely off tonight to grease the heck out of it.
