I used the spray on plastidip on my stock rims, did 3 coats which used one can per wheel. It lasted me over a year (then I changed wheels). Never had a problem with bubbling or peeling. Use index cards on the outside of the rim to keep it from getting on your tires when you spray it, and put nickles over the lug holes (but pick the nickles up immediately after you spray on a coat, otherwise you'll have to cut the plastidip since pulling the nickles up will peel the plastidip off the wheel)

Is it necessary to do the card thing between the rubber and the rim? Or can you just peel the dip from the rubber after it dries. And if you have to do the cards, do you replace the cards in between each coat or just leave them in till done?

Thanks

Its best to use the cards and the nickels, and to remove them after you spray (carefully of course) because if you don't, you run the risk of peeling. IF you don't use the cards, the plastic will get on the tires and it can cause the plasti-dip to peel if you try to remove it (or if you drive w it) after it dries. Do it once, do it right!

I used plastidip. I think its about $7 a can at Home Depot. I bought 5 cans just to be safe. Clean the rims very well, try to get them showroom quality. I took a trash bag, cut it in half, half way up the length of the bag. Then i tucked it in behind the rim to protect everything behind the rims from overspray. Don't let the trash bag touch the back of the rim though cause it might peel up some of the rim when you try to take it out of there. (Don't forget to take them out after your done spraying ) I applied light coats. I honestly don't think it matters if you do medium coats or light coats. The end result will still be the same. However, if you do light coats you won't have any problems with 'runs' if your timid with your spraying abilities. Wait about 15 to 25 min between each coat. If you set up all 5 wheels, you can basically just keep going around the jeep without having to wait. Ive been through automatic car washes and no problems at all. But its my DD and i don't take it off road. I also have all black Nittos so i didn't have to worry about using the note cards. Click image for larger version

yea good point on the trash bags. I took my wheels off, I didn't want to risk having plasti dip in my brakes, etc. I did the spare first one evening, then rotated the tires around doing one tire a night.
