I did my wheels with it and I have taken it through the car wash many times no issues. The key is prep I wiped the wheels down with denatured alcohol to clean them then sprayed away a few light coats and they look awesome.

 

Used it on my wifes FJ emblems and it worked great. Keys to good adhesion is multiple light coats and good clean surface.

 

Used this stuff on my wheels and they came out awesome haven't had any problems with this yet.

 

Had chrome tail light covers and filler door. Painted with plastic dip. Looks good. Lasted a few washes and just the other day noticed a small spot starting to peel. Just did it for giggles to see if I liked it or not. Will refinish by painting for longer durability.

 

Not Jeep related, but I have used it. I change my own motorcycle tires using a tire changer from Harbor Freight. The 3 adjustable jaws that hold the rim in place were cheaply powder coated and I was afraid they would mark up my rims. So I roughed up the powdercoat, cleaned them, and hit them with some plastidip. It left a nice grippy rubber coating on the jaws that holds the rim in place without marking up the rims. That was probably 5-6 years ago and I have changed maybe 40 tires (mine and friends) with it and the coating is still holding up.

The trick to it (and any other painting) is the prep work. You have to have a 100% clean surface to start with or it won't adhere properly. It also don't hurt to have a roughed up surface, but that is only possible in certain applications.

 

I Plasti Dipped my wheels, originally just did it so i could decide if i wanted to powder coat my stock wheels. That was about 2.5 months ago and its still holding up. Its held up offroading through snow and mud and held up against the stuff colorado puts on the road. Also has held up to the pressure washer just fine. The key is to put it on thick enough that its covered but if you put too much on it will peel easier

If it does scratch or peel it will be extremely easy to fix. Cost me only 10 dollars to do all 5 wheels. Eventually I will peel it off and get them powder coated but for now this works great

 

I also plasti-dipped my wheels and it came out great..I did it in the summer and they still look new, no chips or signs of peeling. If it does start to peel, the best part is that I can paint them all over again without any issues! It's pretty awesome if you ask me

 

I'm probably gonna do my stock wheels this spring. Did you spray right over the lugs? or did you do the lugs separately and wrench them on after they set up?

 

Prep is the key I took my wheels off the jeep and cleaned them inside and out. I then aired down the tire and shoved index cards between the rubber and the wheel. I also used some extra lug nuts the cover the lug taper (I don't think the lugs would torque well with rubber there) I also taped off where the wheel mounts to the brake disc. I sprayed the inside first the the outside. Just make sure you have good light when you spray it so you don't miss any spots.

 

You only used 2 cans for 5 wheels! I used about a can a wheel.
