Huh. I blew my D44 R&P running 4.88s and 37s and I wasn't even trying. I'm running a Super 60 front and 10.5 rear with 5.38s and I'm planning on replacing a set of gears every season. Good luck with that.

So I have to ask... running in the mud? High RPM's? Anything special that caused this?

Was it the front or rear R&P?

Sure people blow axels but he was concerned about the 5.38 being weaker. Prime example is you with 4.88s and still blowing them. Just illustrating that all ratios are still prone.

Crawling up a rock ledge in first gear and 4 low. Sheared the ring teeth off. No bouncing or bumping. Remember, the lower the ratio, the less engagement between the R&P. That was with 4.88 gears.

Front axle, btw.

Right. 5.38 is weaker than 4.88. Read my post above. As I said, I hate running it in my current axles. Once the front goes, I'll be going with a Jana 76 package so I can use a D70 R&P.

I'm not trying to tell people to get D60s, or smaller tires. Breaking stuff is part of the sport. The point is that you have to expect major failures. Maybe it won't happen, but understand where the weaknesses are. If you are running 5.38 gears and 37s, don't be shocked if you go through a R&P. Not a big deal. $500 and you're back on the road.

Agree with all, you must pay to play regardless of your setup anything can happen.
