I have 11 2dr sport 6spd on trail grappler 35" ordered 4.56 but there on back order for 35days I was told they had them in stock got the carrier for the 30 then the phone call saying that.. No the vendor was telling me that I was wasting my time with this gear set an told me I should go to 5.13 at the min 4.88 now when I referred to the gear chart that I'm sure everyone on here has seen I was told that them numbers weren't right an the rpm sounds way to high...

Now from what I read on this thread an the forum in general 5.13 with my setup is just "overkill" even 4.88 are way to much.. Why do gear shops try to tell you this when people who have them even think they are geared to low..

Now should I just wait for the 4.56 or go 4.88 I need something that's not going to scream 3k+ on the highway but something that's going to be able to pull some hills without constant downshifting..

I think I'm just going to stick with the 4.56 unless anyone out there has a different opinion but this thread has a lot of real life experience

I have an 07 2dr 6 speed. I went with 4.88, and sit at 2300-2500 @ 65 mph on the highway. At first I didnt like the 4.88, but I grew attached to them. I still think they would be better suited 37's though. Just my .02¢ coming from someone with a similar rig.

I still have an awesome passing gear and it out performs other semi-stock rigs in my club.

With a 6sp, stick with 4.56. Its plenty of gear. If you had an automatic, then sure 4.88's and 35's work fine. The guy at the retailer obviously doesnt realize there is a huge difference in the over drive ratios between the two.

Don't forget the 2012's have a 5sp automatic, and the overdrive is not nearly as steep as it was on the 07-11's. Not to mention the extra 85hp.

What bout even 4.10 instead of 4.56? I do plan on getting bumpers front/rear with a winch so the extra weight should I just stick with the 4.56?

I'm just trying to find the happy medium between everything since I don't do any crazy rock crawling just trails an travel tru the mnts in central pa an wv from time to time

4.10's are not as easy to find for the D30, but since you have a 2dr, 4.10's would work (Less weight than a 4dr). I know several people with Rubicons that do fine with the stock 4.10's and 35's (With 6sp's). 6th gear will be more usable with 4.56's, but freeway driving would be fine with the 4.10's. But there is only a 260rpm difference between them (When running 35's) at 70mph (2314 vs 2574).

Why does he need to be in overdrive? Does he win some prize for that?

so after reading every post in this thread I am still in the air between 4.88s and 5.13s I have a 09 jku on 35km2s. I guess I am leaning towards 4.88s. Stronger than 5.13s and lower rpms. I live in florida and see a lot of flat hi way driving. I just want to know if there is anyone running close to the same set up as me but is disappointed going with 4.88s over 5.13s
