Sorry if this question is dumb I'm trying to get a better understanding of how back spacing works... If wheels had 4.5" back spacing instead of 4.75 would they still rub... Also if I don't have a lift will 28/75/17 fit with right wheels thanks for the help

In my case no, I still have the factory wheels but i went to Goodyear Duratrac's 285/70/17's a all that had to be done was an adjustment to the bump stops and wheel spacers

I ran that for a couple of months and then I added the bds 3" lift

No problem. Took me a bit to get my head wrapped around BS as well. The stock JK has a BS of around 6.25" I believe. When you lessen the back spacing basically the tire sits out past the fender and is less likely to rub. 4.5" of BS is ideal you will not rub nor will 4.75. I don't have 285's so I am not certain if they can be run on stock wheels without rubbing but I can't see why not. Try test fitting one and seeing first. But if you have 4.5" of BS you will be good to go.

Again thanks for the help... I'm still trying to decide what I want to do in the future, if money wasn't an issue then 35s with a lift would be a no brainer but getting the 285/75/17 may just be right for me... So now i know w/ correct bs i will ok my next question is will I have fender rubbing... I have a Rubicon 10A which I understand is just a little bit taller than a standard rubicon will I have rubbing on fenders when off roading w/ the 285s, I will most likely cut the fender or get flat ones
