I used Rustoleum Truck bed liner. I prepped good, and they've been great for over a year now.
I sanded, then used mineral spirits, and primed.
I would not power coat them, as it costs too much to fix scratches and dings. With the Rustoleum, just spray over the scratch. It blends perfectly.

Powder coat is a waste of money on wheels in my opinion. Unless you don't wheel around rocks... Just going to scrape off same as paint. You can easily touch up paint, you can't touch up your $300 powdercoated wheels

I agree, why powder coat when you can just buy new rims. Unless of course you really like the style you already have. Why not try Plasti dip? All you have to lose is a few bucks and a day of your time. If it looks bad or starts to peel, just pull it off and go to plan B.
