I've only used primer when painting over bare metal. Whenever I've used bedliner over an already painted surface, no primer and haven't had issues. Since you're only looking to scratch up the surface with sanding, you should be fine with not using it.

Thanks for the info guys, I hope to get these painted and installed this weekend. They didnt come with any installation hardware unfortunately, so I'm going to have to find that somewhere first :P

I painted and mounted them on the weekend, turned out great! Thanks for the help everyone.
