I scuffed mine up using a red scotch brite pad, washed them off, taped off the edge (mainly because I like the look of the silver ring next to the black, and because of the wheel weights) then just sprayed them with Rust oleum gloss black. With exception of the spot that I scratched one of them on a rock, they are holding up great. Didn't bother with priming or anything like that, I knew I would eventually scratch them. Painted them last spring.

Hope this helps.

I used DupliColor Wheel Paint in a dark graphite color. Just washed real good and wiped down with mineral spirits for good measure. I was getting new tires the same week so I just over-sprayed onto the old ones. I took one tire off at a time and had all five done in one day.

Ha! You know what? Those rims look way better than the crappy Moto Metal rims on my Jeep. And my rims are $400 a piece. Good job!

Default Powdercoated Rims

I got all 5 of my rims powdercoated black back in January and been very pleased with the results so far. I think I ended up paying about $200 for all 5 rims so I thought it was a great deal. Here are some pics of what the JK looks like. Im also running 35/17/12.50 toyo open country tires...I love it!!

Thanks. It took some doing, but it was well worth it.

I took painter's tape and put it onto a construction square and cut the tape into thin strips so that I could get the tape to curve. Once I got the curve the way I wanted it, the rest was easy.

Thanks, I wanted to buy some black rims, but now I don't think that I will. I really like the Black Rock Viper wheels. That is partially why I went with the two colors.

I honestly think the blacked out stock rims look nicer than half the "fancy" rims they have on the market. I bet they are way easier to keep clean too because there is not so much detail to work around when you go to the car wash.

I really like how the graphite contrasts with the black. I might have to borrow your idea.
