No, it opens seperately from the tailgate, since the landing block it locks to when closed is bolted thru the driver side rear quarter panel. It would not be nearly as strong and completely rattle/squeak free if it opened with the tailgate.

AEV now has an option for carrying extra fuel on their tire carrier setups.

There is a setup that ratchets to the spare tire. 4 wheel drive put one on project sleeper. I'm impressed. I'm thinking about getting one to carry gas and my generator for my pop up camper.

I already have a bumper i like its brand new and I dont feel like replacing it to get a bumper/tire carrier. So I like the or-fab design. any other like it?
