OrFab Tire Carrier Sag Adjustment
#1
OrFab Tire Carrier Sag Adjustment
I researched this on the internet and could not find anything comprehensive, so I thought I would share.
After many attempts and experimentation I figured out how to easily adjust the sag that appears in the Or Fab tire carrier.
Tools needed
13 mm box wrench
13 mm socket wrench
engine hoist
1. Open carrier
2. If you have a tail gate strut disconnect it
3. Remove gas cans
4. Remove plastic covers on tail gate hinge
5. Place engine hoist arm over carrier by carrier locking mechanism
6. Attach strap to engine hoist and carrier by carrier locking mechanism
7. Adjust hoist until there is tension on strap
8. Remove 4 bolts on tail gate hinge (and blocks under hinge)
9. There are six bolts on carrier hinge, you are going to loosen 5 of them
10. Loosen all three bottom ones
11. Only loosen two inner upper ones
12. Swing tire carrier almost closed so that the locking point is right in front of the receiver
13. Adjust tension on hoist so that carrier in just above landing block (I have a 35 inch tire and a hilift jack), I did it about 4 mm higher
14. Tighten lower outer bolt on carrier hinge
15. Swing carrier open enough to get between the carrier and jeep and tighten other 4 bolts
16. Release engine hoist tension and see if carrier is adjusted properly, if not go back to step 10 with tension on hoist
17. if adjusted properly slightly lift up on right hand side of tail gate and reattach hinge with blocks and 4 bolts
18. Put plastic tail gate hinge covers back on
19. Reattach tail gate strut if applicable
20. Remount gas cans
