Default Opinions on Adding Wheels or a Lift First

Just purchased a 08 JKU X. It all it has extra is a leveling kit. Not sure which one it is. Budgeting my add ons now. I'm thinking of adding MT SideBiters then a 2.5 suspension lift and 33"-35" tires at a later date. The factory tires have good tread left, as the the Jeep only has 6k miles on it. I've heard I can run 33's on a leveling kit, but I'm not sure. Anyone else tried this? Also any opinions on should I go for the lift/tires first or the wheels? I'll post a pic also if anyone has any idea what size leveling kit I have. I'm think 2"front 1" rear

If you are thinking about 35's now you'll be wishing you got them if you go with 33's... I know from experience...33's are fine even under stock suspension and disco'd on the trails. But, as Dirtman said, if you go 35's it will limit you until you lift. Keep in mind that you can keep the stock wheels if that is your plan, but wheel spacers will be required on 35's and will be required either way with a lift. Otherwise pick a wheel with backspacing between 4.5" and 4". NOTE: 4" will be pushed out farther than 4.5" just for reference.

I am in the same boat... lift or tires. I am running spacers now, so I could go with the 35". I am worried if I do the lift first, and the tires down the road, my JK will look retarded until I get the tires.

I have attached a picture of the JK before and after the spacers... I love the stance now. I would recommend you put it on your list if you are keeping stock rims.

Ahhh why is this so hard!Click image for larger version

Just save up and do them both at the same time...

Wow an '08 with only 6,000 miles on it? I did 6,000 miles in my first two months. That's crazy! Good deal, congrats!

Most leveling kits are 2 inch fronts, 1 inch rear. And most leveling kits are basically the same - just a bunch of hockey-puck spacers that you stuff into your coils.

You'll do fine with 33's on a leveling kit. Mine's like that and no rubbing even when flexed/disco'ed. Looks good without being over the top. 35's are the best tires and look wicked awesome too, but there's a lot that goes into making that work - so on the 33's.

One more thing - do you have lifetime warranty on that '08? If so going to 35's and doing all the mods like long-arm lifts, driveshaft swaps, track bar changes, etc. could void your warranty. With 33's and a leveling kit, you won't have to worry about that.

If he just purchased it used the lifetime warranty is gone. It's non-transferable from what I understand.

In a similar situation...went with the lift first (Teraflex 2.5" coil with shock adapters) cause my stock Rubicon tires have plenty of wear on them and wanted to wait until getting bigger tires...looks pretty dopey!
So I'd agree...wait and get both at the same time...35's if geared for them.

I didn't get it from a Jeep Dealership. It came from a Jaguar dealer who said an older guy traded it in and only used to take his dog to the beach. took it buy a Jeep dealer after and said my drivetrain warranty was still good, but nothing else

I'm leaning toward rims and 33's right now. It's my everyday driver in grad school, so I need something that will be okay on highway. I know deep down I want to go with 35's. So I'm thinking add the lift and 35's after grad school when I have an "adult" job and don't have to drive all over the place for clinical rotations. Appreciate everyone's advice and opinions. I'll post some pics after I get it all done
