Default OMG !!! I'm about to blow a gasket

I'm trying to replace my 4WD shift knob with a custom one, and I have tried everything I can think of to get this thing off! I'm about to take a chainsaw to it if someone can't help me come up with a better solution...it seems like it should be such an easy mod, and I must be doing something wrong. Please, please, pleassseeeee help

Yes just pull like an SOB straight up! Just wear a goalie mask as I whacked myself in the face pulling off my shifter knob!

I haven't tried it myself yet but this little write up might help you out. It seems the most reasonable method, apart from using a gear puller or something.

It's easy...you need a Terri cloth, adjustable pliers and a rubber mallet or hammer. Wrap the Terri cloth around the base of the knob put your pliers around the base of the knobover the Terri, but do not pinch. Next using your hammer lightly tap the pliers up at the joint. Make sure your face is out of the way because the knob will shoot off. I found this to be the best way because it does not destroy the snap prong on the inside if you want to use it again.
Ps.. This also works for the manual shift knob.

Yes, one must be wary of chin shots from the knob.....sorry couldn't help myself, I know it was not constructive or helpful at all.
