Default Olympic 4x4 defender rear bumper review.

So I got a Olympic defender rear bumper through 4 wheel parts for $280 and it suggests you get the receiver too so that's an additional $60.
So I go to put it on and first off you have to remove your factory tow hook on the rear drivers side. This sucks because that is a solid recovery point. The bumper mounts by inserting a bracket in the end of each frame and securing the mounts with 2 bolts to the bracket and two bolts to the tube bumper.
Here's my problem, the bumper looks strong but I am pretty sure it will bend if I either land on a rock, use a Li lift under it, or use it as a recovery point. Did I just waist my money on a cosmetic product.
I mean I can use my new reciever as a recovery point but $340 I probable could have got something more solid. Anyone else running this bumper or the BOA rear bumper.

Some also call this bumper the BOA extreme.

You can see the thin bracket holding the bumper on. How do most after market bumpers attach?

I see what i mean. Doesnt look very durable by visual inspection does it? I dont have the greatest vibes about that bumper taking a rock hit and it not giving or bending at the mounts.

It should be ok. I mean it's not indestructible but it should take a good hit. I have the ORF tube rear and I have slammed it a couple times. The worst damage is a slight indention in one of the tubes that is not even noticeable after some touch up paint.

Many aftermarket rear bumpers use the same attachment point in the frame rails.

How did the receiver attach? If it uses 4 thru bolts in the rear cross member that is good and you could use for a recovery point with one of these...

Yea I just thought it would be more stout. We will see how it does. Anyway I do like the looks and does improve rear angles. Only time will tell.

I had this Olympic Defender bumper for a couple of years (replaced it recently for an Ex One bumper with tire carrier).

It's a decent bumper for the $price and pretty stout. It took a big knock when Jeep lost traction on a hill climb and skidded back into a tree ! The Olympic bumper took the impact, denting the center section but importantly the mounting points and bolts held perfectly.
The bumper is built to sit above, and work with a stock or aftermarket 2" hitch receiver.

The paint has held up decently for 3+ years of east coast weather, only flaking around the dented section.

Surprisingly for a 2" tube bumper, the Jeep CAN be lifted on just this bumper, using a hi-lift. I don't recommend it as a jacking point, but it's strong enough if needed.

This is an excellent choice if you don't need or want to pay-up for a rear tire carrier.
