I found a way to add the upgraded overhead console, with information center and temp/compass, to the Montana. I also found the mysterious underbody clunk on the T&C is related to a poorly designed swaybar bushing that is easily corrected after a visit to NAPA. She doesn't mind me visiting minivan forums because of the benefit she has received.

The Motorcraft filters are actually highly regarded. They are made by Purolator and have the good silicone anti-drain valve.
I believe the Chrysler filter is also made by Purolator.

Default Mobil 1 Filter

I did my first oil change and put in Mobil1 5W30 and the Mobli 1 filter. I also noticed some noise at start up a few times, I believe from the lifters. The Motorcraft filter worked better? You think the filter isn't holding oil?

just to add my 2 cents, I have had great luck with Mobil 1 5w-20 and a wix filter that I pick up at NAPA. My company has an account there so I can get them around $4.

Two things to add.

There are other posts about start up noise and the Mobil1 filter. It seems to be a drain back issue. I'm sure it is a great filter, but it has an issue here.

When I did engine tests for DCX, the filters we ordered from DCX in bulk came in Purolator boxes. The engineers stated that some DCX (at the time) filters were Purolator and some were another brand.

It wounds like regular startup clatter as a result of drain back. I don't think I'd use such low viscosity oil as 0W20, synthetic or not. These engines are not that efficient that you need to run such oils. Synthetic, yes you can, but go with what stock recommends (5W30) unless you're in the desert.

?!

Lower viscosity improves efficiency by reducing the energy lost to oil friction. Many current engines state 5W-20 or 0W-20 on the oil cap because of the improved mileage they yield over the "old standby" 5W-30 or 10W-30. The lower viscosity also flows quicker when it's cold (startup), so it's a good countermeasure to low temps or tight passages. I'm fairly sure our Jeeps specify 5W-20 as stock, not 5W-30.

I'm not sure where that desert comment came from, but conventional wisdom is to use a heavier (thicker) oil in hot temperatures. (synthetics being much better at wider temperature ranges than conventional, though, so it's not generally an issue for them)

Since I see others with clatter from the Mobil1 filter, then I can only say DO NOT use Mobil1 filters on your vehicle!!!!
Our engines were designed to have the anti-drain valve keep oil up in the valvetrain and not drain down into the pan. Starving the valvetrain of oil, if only for a few seconds, is VERY bad for the engine.

I used only Syntec in the Probe GT I bought new in '93. I became a Mobil1 oil supporter after reading all the positive comments (and outcomes) on Ford truck forums.
Filters? I'd only choose PureOne or Motorcraft. I would ALWAYS stay away from Fram and will now add Mobil1 to that AVOID list.

The Mobil 1 filter probably explains my recently aquired start up knock... Add another one that can confirm to avoid this filter...

I also installed a mobil 1 filter and noticed immediate startup chatter on a cold engine. I have since changed my oil & filter again, not mobil 1 this time, and no more startup chatter. I won't run another mobil 1 filter in this engine.
